Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Scripture which maketh plain, 2 Lo! We have appointed it a Lecture, in Arabic that haply ye may understand. 3 It is inscribed in the original Book (of Books) with Us, sublime, dispenser of (all) laws. 4 Shall We utterly ignore you because ye are a wanton folk? 5 And how many Prophets We did send among the earlier people! 6 And there came not to them a prophet but they mocked at him. 7 Wherefore We destroyed peoples mightier than these in prowess; and there hath gone forth the example of the ancients. 8 And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; 9 [The one] who has made for you the earth a bed and made for you upon it roads that you might be guided 10 That sends down (from time to time) rain from the sky in due measure;- and We raise to life therewith a land that is dead; even so will ye be raised (from the dead);- 11 And the One Who created all pairs, and made the ships and cattle as rides for you. 12 so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. 13 It is to our Lord that we shall eventually return.” 14 Yet they have assigned to Him a part of His own servants! Man is dearly unthankful. 15
