The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
