The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
