The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
