The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
