The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And not an apostle came unto them but at him they were wont to mock. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 If We opened a gate in the heaven and they kept ascending through it, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
