Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
