[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
