The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
