[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 Behold, Shu'aib said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 177 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 178 So fear Allah, and obey me. 179 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure, and be not cheaters, 181 Weigh your goods with proper balance 182 “And do not give the people their goods diminished, and do not roam the earth causing turmoil.” 183 And fear He who created you and the former creation." 184 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched, 185 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; indeed, we think that thou art one of the liars. 186 So cause a fragment of the sky to fall on us, if you are truthful." 187 He said, "My Lord knows all that you do." 188 But they denied him, so there came on them the retribution of the day of gloom. Lo! it was the retribution of an awful day. 189 Verily in that is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 190 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
