The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
