The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
