The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
