۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
