۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
