The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
