The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
