The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
