He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
