The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
