The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
