The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
