AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Why do you not reflect? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 we are the rangers, 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 They say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
