The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
