The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
