Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 This (Qur’an) is sent down from the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 2 a divine writ, the messages whereof have been clearly spelled out as a discourse in the Arabic tongue for people of [innate] knowledge, 3 Good tidings and a warning. But most of them turn away so that they hear not. 4 They say: "Our hearts are under veils, (concealed) from that to which thou dost invite us, and in our ears is a deafness, and between us and thee is a screen: so do thou (what thou wilt); for us, we shall do (what we will!)" 5 Say thou: I am only a human being like unto you; only it is revealed unto me that your God is but One God, wherefore take the straight path unto Him and seek forgiveness of Him. And woe be unto the associators. 6 [and] those who do not spend in charity: for it is they, they who [thus] deny the truth of the life to come! 7 But those who believe and do the right, will have a continuing reward. 8
