The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 for, how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
