The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
