He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
