The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
