'Aad denied the messengers 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
