۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned." 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 "We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!" 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?' 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of Hell. 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
