The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
