The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and his brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
