The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches the skin; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
