Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
