The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
