The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 (It is) a marked Book. 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 On thrones, watching. 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
