The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
