And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 and for all such, behold, hell is the promised goal. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
