The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount; 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
