The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
