O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
