He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
