He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
