The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
