The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 It is a written book, 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 On couches face to face. 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 and when they saw them said: 'These are they who are astray' 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
