He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him thou attendest 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
