The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 A record of misdeeds written. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 No one denies it except for the evil aggressor. 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 A Register inscribed. 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed. 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 Blended with the water of Tasnim, heights ultimate of evolution, 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
