AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 We have come to thee with the truth, and assuredly we speak truly. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
